Hotel occupancy rates still falling

Regional hotel occupancy rates declined further in most markets, according to Wolfgang Rood Hospitality Consulting new report.

Downtown Seattle occupancy rates did jump 12 percent in January compared to the same month in 2009. Other submarkets recorded drops: Eastside, 13 percent; Pierce County, 12 percent; Sea-Tac Airport, 2 percent. Statewide, the rate was up less than 1 percent.

Average daily room rates were off 8 percent in both downtown Seattle and around Sea-Tac. They were off more than 6 percent on the Eastside and 7 percent in Pierce County. Rates were down 5 percent statewide.
